Stina Nordenstam The World Is Saved For lack of a better reference point, Stina Nordenstam gets compared to fellow northern spooky chick, Bjork. And fans of Bjork would probably like her music, as might fans of Portishead or Tory Amos or ... other sad girls. But Nordenstam has her own voice -- wispy, creepy, child-like -- and a skill for putting her existential and relational angst into poetry, assisted here by elegant, jazzy orchestration, unassuming production, and a respect for the power of silence. It's a moody album, but with a melodic sensibility that sticks on the first listen, particularly on tracks like "Parliament Square" and "Butterfly." -Katie VrabelJuly 7, 2005 <<BACK |
